Insider Tips

Family Travel Tips for Gran Canaria

🧴
Sun Protection: The UV index is very high year-round. Pack reef-safe SPF 50+, rash vests for the kids, and keep toddlers in the shade during 12pm–3pm.
🚗
Car Hire: A hire car gives you the freedom to explore beyond the resorts. Most companies offer child seats for a small extra fee — or bring your own for convenience.
🍽️
Family Dining: Restaurants in the resorts are very child-friendly. Spanish mealtimes run late (lunch 2pm, dinner 9pm), but tourist areas serve food at all hours. Most restaurants have children's menus.
🏥
Healthcare: EU citizens should carry a valid EHIC/GHIC card. There are excellent hospitals in Las Palmas and clinics in all major resorts. Pharmacies are well-stocked and pharmacists can advise on minor ailments.
💶
Budget Tip: Many of the island's best experiences are free — beaches, hiking trails, botanical gardens, and markets. Book attraction tickets online for discounts, and self-cater a few meals to save money.
